Forms & Information

Students are restricted to a maximum number of credit hours:

Fall & Spring: 19 hours

Summer: 14 hours

If a student would like to take more than the maximum number of hours they will need to submit an Overload Request Form

Students that are not taking more than the maximum number of hours during a semester will not need to submit an overload request form.

To request a Course Overload, please fill out the form below and return via email to Cjacademics@shsu.edu.

Overload Request Form

When a course has certain restrictions that prevent students from registering, a student can request a Course Override to bypass the restriction. There are different types of Course Overrides depending on the restriction.

Classification Override – Course is restricted to a classification (e.g., juniors/seniors).

Prerequisite Override – The course requires successful completion of a prerequisite course in order to enroll.

Capacity Override – Course is full.

Factors taken into consideration: current waitlist, necessity of course, alternative options available, extenuating circumstances,

Factors NOT taken into consideration: Preference of specific professors, schedule preference

Please make other arrangements for course registration as Course Override Request approval is not guaranteed.

Course Override

A Walk-Only Request form may be submitted by a student who has not yet completed all degree requirements but would like to participate in the commencement ceremony.

This request allows students to take part in the ceremony prior to the official conferral of their degree. However:

  • Only extenuating circumstances will be considered.
    • Extenuating circumstances may include a death or terminal illness in the immediate family, military service obligations, or relocation.

All requests are subject to approval by the academic dean.

Please note, if the request is approved, participation in the commencement ceremony does not signify completion or conferral of degree - the degree will be conferred in the semester in which all requirements are met. A new graduation application and fee must be submitted for the term in which degree completion is expected.

To make a Walk-Only request, please email cjacademics@shsu.edu.
