"I chose SHSU because of how much the university invests in its students. There are so many opportunities to grow academically, build your professional brand, develop meaningful relationships, and create lifelong friendships. SHSU gives you the tools and opportunities to succeed and, in a way, says, “Do your best and go be great!” I also love that it is close enough to home for me to stay connected with my family. Being about an hour and a half away means I can fully experience life on campus while still being able to go home and support my little brother at his basketball games. For me, that combination of opportunity, community, and family is what made SHSU the perfect choice.
I am a junior political science major with a minor in legal studies. After I graduate, I plan to take some time between my undergraduate and graduate studies to gain professional experience and further prepare for a career in law and public policy. During that time, I hope to work as a legal assistant while attending SHSU Polytechnic College to earn my Paralegal Certificate. I then plan to attend my dream law school, South Texas College of Law, where I hope to focus my studies on Government and Public Policy as well as Constitutional Law. Ultimately, I would love to build a career in the Texas Capitol, potentially working as a lobbyist, political analyst, or in another role where I can combine my passion for law, government, and public policy. My goal is to use my education and experience to make an impact on the policies that shape the state and the communities I care about.
CHSS has played such a significant role in my academic and personal growth, which is why I chose to become a CHSS Ambassador. During my freshman year, I was very introverted, but through opportunities within CHSS, such as National Model United Nations, I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and gain hands-on experience that aligns with my future career goals. More importantly, these experiences taught me how to advocate for myself and for others. Being a CHSS Ambassador gives me the opportunity to use my voice to advocate for prospective and current CHSS students who may feel unseen, unheard, or unsure of where to turn for support. I want students to know that their voices matter and that there are people and resources within CHSS who are willing to listen, help, and make sure they feel supported.
My favorite and most beloved thing about SHSU is the sense of community. There is always something happening on campus and always someone new to meet. Whether it’s getting involved in an organization, attending a campus event, or simply connecting with someone new, SHSU creates so many opportunities to build meaningful relationships and feel like you belong."
