The Department of English offers courses from freshman composition through graduate seminars. English majors may take courses in literature, English linguistics, creative writing, rhetoric and composition, and technical communication. Through teaching and mentoring, our award-winning professors prepare the next generation of scholars, teachers, artists, and citizens.
At SHSU, English students develop skills that are applicable to many careers, including research, analysis, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. English majors develop careers in various fields, including technical writing, teaching in middle and high schools, editing and publishing, internet content development, and higher education.
