TLC Services
We offer a variety of services to educate, develop, inspire, and support instructors in the advancement of effective teaching practices, focused on measurable outcomes that drive student success and retention.
We offer a series of workshops and discussion groups on all topics teaching and learning. They vary in length from hours to those held over multiple days, facilitated by your colleagues who have been successful in applying the practice in their classroom.
We provide funding to support faculty in pursuing opportunities to expand their exposure to active learning and student-centered teaching, whether for conference travel or other research and publishing.
We continually measure outcomes to offer programs with a high propensity for success and against the latest andragogies for student-centered learning.
We model the statement "The Measure of a Life is its Service". In serving instructors at Sam Houston State University, we contribute to and are committed to student success.

AI Fellowships
The Teaching & Learning Center, in partnership with the Office of the President and the Office of Research and Strategic Partnerships, is thrilled to announce the appointment of three new faculty members as Artificial Intelligence Fellows. Dr. Syed Faruqui, Dr. Ashley Brittain, and Dr. Yingying Tang have each made significant contributions to the field of artificial intelligence, both individually and within their respective colleges. Their dedication and expertise in AI will bring unique research and authorship perspectives to SHSU. These fellows will play a pivotal role in enhancing the Teaching and Learning Center's program development and educational resources, benefiting our instructors and enriching the university's academic environment.
