Adaptive technologies available on Huntsville and satellite campuses.

Adaptive technologies are available for use by students with disabilities at several locations on the SHSU Huntsville campus and The Woodlands Center. These technologies include assistive listening devices (i.e., FM amplifiers), CCTV video magnifiers, computers with large monitors, and adaptive software packages, such as the ZoomText screen magnifier/reader, the JAWS screen reader, and the Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 text-to-speech programs. The following is a complete listing of these technologies and their locations on the SHSU Huntsville campus and The Woodlands Center.

SSD Adaptive Technology Lab (Lee Drain Annex, Room 116):

  • 2 CCTV video magnifiers
  • 6 computers
  • 5 scanners
  • FM amplifiers
  • ZoomText screen magnifier/reader software on 6 computers
  • JAWS screen reader software on 6 computers
  • Kurzweil 3000 text-to-speech software on 4 computers
  • Kurzweil 1000 text-to-speech software on 1 computer
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software on 4 computers

Newton Gresham Library (far end of the first-floor computer area, near Administration Offices):

  • CCTV video magnifier
  • One computer with a 24-inch monitor
  • ZoomText screen magnifier/reader software
  • JAWS screen reader software
