Institutional Review Board (IRB)
OVERVIEW
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Sam Houston State University ensures that research involving human participants upholds the highest standards of ethics, safety, and regulatory compliance.
All SHSU research involving human subjects, whether funded or unfunded, must be reviewed and approved by the IRB before data collection begins.
Mission
The mission of the SHSU IRB is to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants.
The IRB reviews, approves, and monitors research in accordance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and ethical principles established in the Belmont Report (Respect for Persons, Beneficence, and Justice).
SHSU maintains an approved Federalwide Assurance (FWA00002405) of compliance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).
