Chemistry Scholarships & Research Funding
Scholarships and Research Funding
The Department of Chemistry offers multiple scholarship and research funding opportunities to support student success in the classroom and laboratory. Students are encouraged to apply for both university-wide and department-specific awards through SHSU’s Scholarships4Kats portal.
The SMART Program is a highly competitive scholarship that provides financial support, mentoring, and research training to academically talented students majoring in Chemistry or Forensic Chemistry at Sam Houston State University. Funded through the National Science Foundation S-STEM initiative, the program is designed to promote student success, retention, and career readiness in STEM fields.
The Department is proud to support undergraduate research through funding from the Robert A. Welch Foundation. Welch Scholarships provide financial support for students engaged in faculty-mentored research projects during the academic year and summer terms.
These awards are intended to help students gain hands-on laboratory experience, develop research skills, and prepare for graduate school or careers in chemistry and related fields. Fellowship recipients typically work closely with faculty mentors on original research projects.
Chemistry majors may be considered for departmental scholarships that recognize academic achievement, research involvement, leadership, and professional potential. These awards are made possible through lab manual sales, departmental funds, and generous donor support.
Students should complete the university’s general scholarship application through Scholarships4Kats to be considered for available chemistry scholarships.
