SMART Program

Details

The SMART Program (Scholarships, Mentoring, and Research Training) at Sam Houston State University is funded by the National Science Foundation’s S-STEM initiative. Its purpose is to support academically talented students majoring in Chemistry or Forensic Chemistry.

• Scholarships of up to $6,000 per year (renewable) are available to reduce financial stress and allow for a greater focus on academics.
• Mentoring from faculty and peers to guide academic success and career planning.
• Research training and professional development, preparing you for graduate school or high-demand careers in chemistry and related fields.
• Community-building opportunities with a supportive cohort of fellow chemistry majors.

The application will be available in August 2026.

Scholarship awards through the SMART Program are contingent upon the availability of funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Final approval and disbursement of scholarships are subject to receipt of these federal funds by Sam Houston State University.
