Iris is a dynamic multimedia production space where students bring ideas to life through creative, hands-on projects. Designed to support innovative learning across the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Iris empowers students to communicate in multiple formats and develop professional digital skills.

What Can Students Create in Iris?

Students can design and produce a wide range of multimodal projects, including:

• Videos and short films
• Podcasts and audio storytelling
• Professional photography projects
• Professionally bound print publications
• 3-D printed models and objects

Whether students are crafting a documentary, recording a podcast episode, designing a publication, or prototyping a 3-D object, Iris provides the tools and environment to support creative exploration.

Cutting-Edge Technology

Iris offers access to industry-standard equipment and collaborative technology, including:

• A fully equipped sound booth
• Digital SLR cameras and professional lighting
• iPads and Surface tablets
• iMacs, PCs, and MacBook Pros
• Collaboration stations for group work
• A color laser printer, document folder, and document binder
• A 3-D printer

These resources give students practical experience with the technologies used in today’s professional and creative industries.

Who Uses Iris?

Although Iris is housed in the Evans Complex and supported by the English department, the space serves faculty, students, and courses throughout the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Faculty across disciplines can integrate multimedia and experiential learning into their courses through Iris-supported projects.

Accessing Iris

Iris is not a general-access computer lab. Instead, it is designed specifically for students completing projects intentionally developed for the space. Faculty interested in incorporating Iris into their courses are encouraged to collaborate with the Iris team during project planning.
