Rise to Greater in Mechanical Engineering And Technology

The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology at SHSU trains students in engineering physics, materials science, and mathematics to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. Through courses like Computer-Aided Design (CAD), fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, control systems, and automation, students gain practical experience with real machinery and campus labs. The program also integrates programming fundamentals and offers elective focus areas like renewable energy, quality control, or PLCs. Graduates emerge career-ready for diverse roles in industries such as manufacturing, HVAC, robotics, and oil & gas.

ABET Accreditation

The Sam Houston State University Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the ABET Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission.

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program is to provide a world class engineering technology education that combines engineering physics and mathematics principles with materials science to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems through hands on projects and active learning experiences. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering branches.
