Students pursuing a degree in the College of Education can explore a variety of scholarship opportunities designed specifically for those preparing to enter the teaching and education fields. These awards highlight your academic excellence, dedication to service, and passion for shaping future generations.
Using Scholarships4Kats, SHSU’s all-in-one scholarship application system, students are automatically considered for scholarships they qualify for—from university-wide opportunities to those offered within the College of Education.
Some COE departments also provide additional scholarships that may require extra steps, such as submitting materials or meeting program-specific criteria. All students must complete the Scholarships4Kats application and are encouraged to reach out to their academic department for details about department-level scholarships and requirements.

Charles Butt Scholarship
The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers is designed to support promising students pursuing a future in the teaching profession. The scholarship consists of $8,000-$10,000 in annual funding, as well as professional development opportunities and mentorship from sitting public school educators. The scholarship is open to students who are working toward receiving their teaching certification for the first time at selected universities.

Hawkins Scholarship
The Department of Education awarded the first-ever awards for the Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Program grants to increase high-quality teacher preparation programs for teachers of color, strengthen the diversity of our teacher pipeline, and address teacher shortages.

AACTE Holmes Scholars
Holmes Scholars at SHSU will join a national network of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds and are pursuing doctoral degrees. Holmes Scholars are selected based on their academic achievements and their commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the field of education.

Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship
The highly prestigious, nationally recognized Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship supports exceptional students who plan to teach STEM fields in a high-needs school district with $10,000 per academic year. The scholarship, funded by the National Science Foundation, is renewable for up to two years.
