COE Dean Assumes Role as AACTE Board Chair
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) announced that Stacey Edmonson, dean of the College of Education at Sam Houston State University, has assumed her role as chair of the AACTE Board of Directors for 2026–27, providing strategic leadership for the national association representing educator preparation programs across higher education.
Professor Receives Regents' Teacher Award
Peggy Holzweiss, professor of education, received the Regents’ Teacher Award, which honors faculty members for exceptional teaching, meaningful curriculum development and the use of innovative instructional methods. Holzweiss was be honored at the Board of Regents' quarterly meeting in February.

Two Sam Houston State University faculty members have been announced by the Texas State University System (TSUS) Foundation as recipients of the 2025 Regents’ Awards, which recognize outstanding faculty, students and staff across the system. The TSUS Board of Regents made the announcement during its quarterly meeting on Aug. 7-8.
The Sam Houston State University Charter School received an overall A rating for the 2022-23 academic year from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), placing it among the top 10% of Texas school districts.
Sam Houston State University alumni Alfred and Ann Boudny have dedicated their lives to future generations. The steadfast commitment to education that mirrors their alma mater is now entrenched in the Katy Independent School District’s new Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary School.
