Mission

Part of the mission of the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking is to work with community bankers to provide quality educational opportunities and programs for bankers – especially for executive leadership.  

Program overview

The 2027 James B. Bexley Texas Bankers Executive Leadership Series will be held on August 18, 2027 at Sam Houston State University in the Lowman Student Center, White Ballroom on the Huntsville campus. The speaker line-up is to be announced.

• Dr. M. Ray Perryman with the Perryman Group
• Texas Bankers Hall of Fame Honoree Roundtable moderated by Chris Furlow featuring former honorees Scott Dueser, Walter Johnson, Carmen Jordan, David Lacy, and Victor Pierson

In 2026, the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking rebranded and moved the date of the longstanding James B. Bexley Bank Executives' and Directors' Seminar and Golf Tournament to coincide with the Executive MBA [EMBA] in Banking and Financial Institutions Residency Week. This integration honors the legacy of this distinguished seminar, while enriching the educational experience for graduate students and bank industry leaders. With these changes, the annual Golf Tournament has been forgone and resources have been focused on strengthening the program's core educational offerings.
