Mission

Part of the mission of the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking is to work with community bankers to provide quality educational opportunities and programs for bankers – especially for executive leadership.

New alignment

New to 2026, we are excited to announce that we are rebranding and moving the date of our James B. Bexley Bank Executives' and Directors' Seminar and Golf Tournament to coincide with our Executive MBA [EMBA] Residency Week. This integration honors the legacy of our distinguished seminar, while enriching the educational experience for graduate students and bank industry leaders. With these changes we will forego the annual Golf Tournament and focus our resources and efforts on strengthening our core educational offerings.

Program overview

Moving forward, this program will be known as the James B. Bexley Texas Bankers Executive Leadership Series. The seminar is scheduled for August 19, 2026 at Sam Houston State University on the Huntsville, Texas campus in the Lowman Student Center.

This one-day seminar will offer you several presentations and panels featuring:

  • Banking Regulatory Issues Panel moderated by Samuel P. Golden featuring key regulators Charles Cooper, Emily Greenwald, Mark Love, and Troy Thornton
  • Dory Wiley with Commerce Street Holdings
  • Forvis Mazars Accounting Update
