My name is Karlie Hernandez. I grew up in Bakersfield, CA, lived in North Dakota for 6 years, and now I am getting used to living in Texas. I have been married for 7 years and have 2 dogs. I had my first child in August and have fallen held over heels for my son.

I graduated from Bakersfield College with an Associates in Physical Education and then graduated from Valley City State University (VCSU), with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Title 1 certification. I taught Title 1 Reading & Math for 2 years in Hatton, ND. This will be my second year teaching with SHSU Charter School. Last year I taught a Kinder/1st grade blend, began this school year in 2nd grade, and now have transitioned to 1st grade.

SHSU Charter School gives me the opportunity to teach students away from curriculum and engage the individual within the group. This school allows me to be able to be more creative and bold in teaching, to push myself and my students to go above and beyond. My favorite thing about being a part of this charter school is the freedom to extend learning beyond the classroom with the ability to teach each student at his/her level. It allows for more focused instruction to help students develop at their pace.

I have been married for six years to my high school sweetheart, Josue. We have two dogs named Tyson and Dunken. I am excited to be in a new state, big city, and to be close to the coast. Some things I like to do outside of the classroom are go on adventures with my husband and our dogs. I enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, hunting and taking long walks. My favorite things include landscape photography, traveling to new places, arts & crafts, cooking and especially baking. I like to bake all kinds of sweet treats (especially chocolatey things) and try new recipes.
