Remembering Our Bearkats
Jack Parker '64
Returning to his alma mater in 1967 as associate director of admissions, Jack Parker ’64 held many roles at SHSU. Ultimately becoming vice president for finance and operations, he retired in 2008 after 42 years of dedicated service. He was honored as an SHSU Distinguished Alumnus in 1995 and was initiated into the COBA Hall of Honor in 2009. A loyal Bearkat supporter, Jack was a Life Member of the Alumni Association and member of the Sam Houston Foundation
Leroy Wilkinson '65, '67
Longtime Sam Houston State broadcaster Leroy Wilkinson ’65, ’67 was a mainstay at the university with nearly a half-century of service at SHSU. He played on the Bearkats baseball team that won the 1963 NAIA national championship and was a longtime member of the school's booster club as well as served 30 years as radio commentator of Bearkats football and basketball. Wilkinson also taught and coached at New Caney, Splendora and Huntsville public schools. He received the Sam Houston Alumni Association Service Award in 1999 for his work in the booth and service to the university.
