Sam Houston State University (SHSU) will launch an enhanced KatSafe emergency notification system on Friday, Aug. 15, further strengthening campus safety and communication. KatSafe, the university’s campus-wide notification system, delivers timely alerts to keep the SHSU community informed during emergencies and other critical situations.
Powered by BlackBerry AtHoc, a critical event management platform, the new system will deliver real-time alerts about natural disasters, severe weather, high-risk situations and major service interruptions directly to students, faculty and staff via email, text and phone.
A new KatSafe mobile app will also be available, giving users an additional way to receive important safety information wherever they are. Users can download the free Blackberry AtHOC (AtHOC Notifier) app from the Apple App or Google Play stores and use the organization code: SHSU. The mobile app uses GPS services when location tracker feature is enabled.
All SHSU community members are automatically enrolled in KatSafe. Users can update their personal information using the SamWeb portal and add up to 10 phone numbers and three email addresses. Parents who wish to receive emergency notifications are encouraged to have their students add their contact information to the system.
