SHSU Launches New Campus Maps Platform

Sam Houston State University will play host to the launch of Disrupt’s immersive experience platform, Engage byDisrupt. The platform, which launched Monday, will reinvent the way students, staff, alumni and visitors explore SHSU’s campus.

"This wayfinding tool is not just about getting from Point A to Point B,” said Amanda Withers, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations. “It is about making sure you arrive with confidence, purpose and maybe even a good story to tell. We are really excited to present this tool to the campus and to continue to develop it to allow for more in-depth functionalities, further connecting the community to the campus." 

The web-based experience blends real-time navigation, augmented reality and smart search into a single platform with the world’s finest features designed to make every campus visit more intuitive, engaging and accessible.  

Students have an opportunity to be part of the process of selecting a name for the platform by voting or submitting a new name. 

“Sam Houston State has been an incredible partner, and this launch reflects our shared vision of using immersive digital tools to connect people more meaningfully with this beautiful campus space,” said David Gullo, CEO at Disrupt. 

At its core, the platform is built to help universities connect better with their communities. This encompasses everything from orientation and recruitment to alumni engagement and event promotion.  

Key features of Engage byDisrupt at SHSU include:

  • AR Vision (world’s first): Reveal hidden stories, media, and interactive overlays.  
  • Timeline: Tell stories and share engaging information about the rich history of the campus. 
  • Hotspot Finder: Find buildings, amenities, promotions or events in seconds with live routing and powerful user-based filters. 
  • Live Alerts: Stay informed with real-time updates. 
  • Accessibility-First Navigation: Designed to serve all users including those with mobility needs through inclusive wayfinding options. 
  • Share your location: share location information via popular phone messaging and other communication applications. 
  • Customer Feedback: Receive direct user feedback about buildings and amenities. 
  • Custom-Branded Experience: The entire interface reflects SHSU’s unique identity, culture, and tone of voice. 

Behind the scenes, SHSU staff will also gain access to a full content management dashboard with the Insights Hub feature, which allows users to update tours, publish alerts, track usage trends and improve the experience over time.
