Two Sam Houston State University faculty members have been announced by the Texas State University System (TSUS) Foundation as recipients of the 2025 Regents’ Awards, which recognize outstanding faculty, students and staff across the system. The TSUS Board of Regents made the announcement during its quarterly meeting on Aug. 7-8.
Marcus Boccaccini, professor of psychology, received the Regents’ Professor Award, one of the highest honors granted by the TSUS Board of Regents. The award recognizes professors who demonstrate a sustained record of excellence in teaching, research or scholarly activity, and service at the local, state and national levels. Boccaccini will be formally recognized at the Board of Regents meeting in November.
Peggy Holzweiss, professor of education, received the Regents’ Teacher Award, which honors faculty members for exceptional teaching, meaningful curriculum development and the use of innovative instructional methods. Holzweiss will be honored at the Board of Regents meeting in February 2026.
Regents’ Award recipients are selected through a rigorous review process that includes evaluation by peer faculty and external reviewers. The annual awards recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to their universities, communities and the state of Texas.
