Sam Houston State Names Sumanth Yenduri as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Sam Houston State University has appointed Dr. Sumanth Yenduri as its next Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective July 17, 2025. A seasoned academic leader and accomplished computer scientist, Yenduri brings nearly two decades of experience in higher education leadership, academic innovation and student success.
“I am deeply honored to accept the role of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sam Houston State University,” Yenduri said. “My deepest gratitude to the president, the search committee and all stakeholders for their confidence in my leadership. Sam Houston State has a strong legacy of service, excellence and community engagement. I am thrilled, and look forward to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and alumni.”
Yenduri currently serves as Dean of the College of Computing and Software Engineering at Kennesaw State University, Georgia’s third largest university. There, he oversees more than 5,800 students, 135 faculty and staff members and a $25 million budget. Under his leadership, the college experienced a 36% enrollment increase and significant growth in graduate and doctoral programs.
A strategic and student-centered leader, Yenduri has launched several academic programs including a PhD in computer science, a master’s in artificial intelligence and multiple interdisciplinary certificates. He also implemented initiatives to improve retention, expand research output, enhance faculty development and build community and industry partnerships.
Throughout his administrative tenure, Yenduri has emphasized academic excellence, student achievement and operational effectiveness. He has overseen more than $9 million in research expenditure, expanded digital learning opportunities and led fundraising efforts in excess of $4 million in support of scholarships, research and infrastructure.
Prior to his role at Kennesaw State, Yenduri held chair and leadership positions at Southeast Missouri State University, Columbus State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. He holds a master’s and doctoral degree in computer science from Louisiana State University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science and systems engineering from Andhra University in India.
