Mariachi Del Bosque, an award-winning Houston-based mariachi ensemble with roots at Sam Houston State University, will perform during pregame and halftime of the Bearkat football game on Oct. 15 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. The event coincides with Hispanic Heritage Night and will also feature SHSU’s Ballet Folklorico student performers.

Mariachi Del Bosque was founded in 2021 in Huntsville, Texas, by Marissa Anthony-Ruiz and Esmeralda Aguirre-Regalado, along with musical director Miguel Aguirre Jr. What began as a four-member group has grown into a 12-piece ensemble that performs across the Greater Houston area. The group has earned national recognition, competing in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s Go Tejano Day Mariachi Invitational, where they secured second place in 2024 and first place in 2025.

In addition to their competitive success, Mariachi Del Bosque has shared the stage with top Houston ensembles and recently opened for Mariachi Sol de Mexico de José Hernández at the RGV International Mariachi Conference in McAllen, Texas.

The group also maintains close ties to SHSU. Four of its current members are Bearkat alumni and former members of the Bearkat Marching Band: Esmeralda Regalado (’23), Andres Rodriguez (’23), Marissa Anthony-Ruiz (’22), Eddie Picasso (’22).

Mariachi Del Bosque is dedicated to preserving Mexican traditions and culture through the timeless melodies of mariachi music. The Oct. 15 Hispanic Heritage Night football game will highlight this cultural celebration, bringing together music, dance and community pride at Shell Energy Stadium.
