SHSU Names Associate Vice President For Admissions

Ryan Marlin has been named the new associate vice president for admissions in the Strategic Enrollment and Innovation division at Sam Houston State University, effective December 2023.

The associate vice president for admissions oversees recruitment and admissions functions as well as Visitor Services. In this role, Marlin will largely focus on leading initiatives to support student success and access as well as the university’s goal of recruiting, retaining, graduating and empowering students to drive sustainable growth.

“I’m excited to have Ryan join SHSU as a key member of the enrollment leadership team,” Ann Theodori, vice president for enrollment, said. “He has many years of experience working with teams at other universities to successfully increase enrollment, and in his short time at SHSU so far, he has already brought value by providing insights on strategy and building strong relationships with colleagues and with campus partners.”

Marlin joins SHSU after five successful fall and spring cycles overseeing recruitment efforts at the University of North Texas (UNT) as their senior director of admissions. During his time at UNT, the university saw growth in both their undergraduate and graduate populations, rising to become the third largest institution in the state.

Prior to his time at UNT, he served in positions related to student recruitment and success for more than nine years at Arizona State University. Those positions included assistant director of transfer admissions, director of advising and recruitment in the College of Health Solutions and director of recruitment in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
