On April 23, Sam Houston State University will hold its first Giving Day! This inaugural event will center around “1879”, the year the university was founded. The online campaign will last one day, eight hours, seven minutes and nine seconds. Funds raised during this event will support university scholarships, programs, athletics and the Alumni Association.

"We are seeking the collective support of our Bearkat community, which includes esteemed alumni, community leaders and cherished friends. Together, we aim to foster active engagement and unwavering support as the university continues to grow," said Charlie Vienne, associate vice president of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

Gifts made during Giving Day will bolster targeted endeavors. Whether directed towards a particular college, a specific program at SHSU, or Life Membership in the Alumni Association, donors can select from a variety of initiatives to support. For example, the SHSU Food Pantry, Bearkat Emergency Fund, freshman scholarships and many more areas need support. Each generous donation plays a pivotal role in empowering SHSU to cultivate student success.

“At Sam Houston State University, what makes us different is our commitment and dedication to service. Our motto, “The measure of a Life is its Service” resonates among our university community as our culture honors our robust history and focuses on impacting the future by giving back and helping others.” said Matt Bethea, vice president for University Advancement.

With hourly challenges throughout the day, donors can unlock bonus dollars for their favorite programs and areas of support. Those interested in increasing the impact of a  gift through a challenge or match can email givingtoshsu@shsu.edu  to connect with an Annual Giving team member..
