Design Approved For SHSU Health Professions Building

Design development documents for the future Sam Houston State University Health Professions Building were among the items approved by the Texas State University System Board of Regents at their regular quarterly meeting on the SHSU campus on Feb. 22 and 23.

To be located next to the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe, the four-level Health Professions Building will serve as a new home for SHSU’s allied health programs in the core fields of Athletic Training, Dietetics, Physician’s Assistant and Physical Therapy.

In academic affairs, the university was authorized to offer a 100 percent online degree program, leading to the Master of Science in Business Security and Resilience, to be housed in the Department of Security Studies within the College of Criminal Justice, as of Fall 2024.

Regents also approved SHSU to offer a 100 percent online certificate program, leading to the undergraduate certificate in Sport Coaching, housed in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health Sciences, with an implementation date of Fall 2024.

A change to decrease the semester credit hours from 58 to 57 was approved to the PhD in Criminal Justice, housed in the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology, within the College of Criminal Justice, to be implemented Sept. 1, 2024.

All academic affairs program changes are to be implemented upon final approval by the TSUS Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

In finance, Regents authorized an amendment to the university’s food service contract with Aramark.

In contracts, Regents approved an agreement with SimpsonScarborough for the design and implementation of a new university website along with various department websites and intranet.

Permission was granted for the renewal of a network security licensing and services agreement with Netsync Network Solutions, Inc.

In miscellaneous items, Regents authorized to name the new SHSU President’s Home the Smith-Lenamon House.

The Regents’ Teacher Award was conferred upon Andrea Foster, professor of Education in the School of Teaching and Learning.
