Moore brings 20 years of student affairs experience to his new role and has served as vice president for student affairs at Eastern Kentucky University since 2020.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Sam Houston State University team,” Moore said. “I look forward to collaborating with students, faculty and staff to enhance the student experience, foster a vibrant campus community and ensure all students have the tools and support needed to be successful.”

At Eastern Kentucky, Moore oversaw student affairs for the campus of 14,465 students. His responsibilities included housing and residence life, student health services, the counseling center, student life and first year experience, Greek life and other areas.

He led the Division of Student Affairs’ effort to create a mission, vision, goals and the division’s strategic plan while overseeing 70 full-time employees and more than 200 student workers. Prior to his role at Eastern Kentucky, Moore served in multiple positions at Northern Kentucky University, including senior associate dean and assistant vice president for student affairs.

Moore also served as assistant director of multicultural affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington, and prior to that he held residence hall leadership roles at Marquette University and Eastern Illinois University. He has also taught university courses in cross-cultural engagement, higher education administration, leading through technology and other courses since 2005.

An experienced leader in community engagement, Moore has served on the YMCA Board of Directors, the Northern Kentucky Chamber, the Lincoln Grant Scholar House (an innovative model for single parents who are full time college students) and the Brighton Center, which seeks opportunities for individuals and families to reach self-sufficiency through family support services, education, employment and leadership.

Moore earned his doctoral degree in educational leadership from Northern Kentucky, a master’s degree in college student affairs from Eastern Illinois University and a bachelor of arts degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin Parkside.

“Dr. Moore’s success in student and community engagement, student success and his leadership at universities with diverse student populations match Sam Houston perfectly,” Alisa White, SHSU president said. “His experience aligns with our strategic priorities for student success and elevating the reputation and visibility of SHSU.”
