Aneika SimmonsAneika Simmons, interim associate vice provost for faculty success (starting Aug. 1) at Sam Houston State University, has been both nominated and selected to take part in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Emerging Leaders Program (ELP).

Joining a new cohort of 36 higher education professionals, Simmons will participate in discussions and learning experiences through an in-person retreat in Washington D.C., monthly virtual workshops and small-group sessions.

With a curriculum designed to develop the skills and competencies necessary for the next generation of higher education leaders, the 2022 cohort will cover topics such as equity and social justice leadership, navigating and leading through change, finance and administration, leading as a provost and other subject areas.

Simmons, who also serves as professor of management and diversity, equity, and inclusion director in the College of Business Administration, believes the program will provide a great opportunity for growth and expand her mastery of the critical skills required to lead in academia.

"I am honored to have been nominated by SHSU leadership and selected by ELP,” Simmons said. “I hope to continue to learn best practices related to administrative leadership within academia. I would also like to continue developing my ability to make contributions to our SHSU mission and strategic initiatives."
