Families at Saturday@Sam around Clock TowerSam Houston State University’s Visitor Services will once again host Saturday@Sam, a bi-annual campus preview day for prospective students, on March 5. The event offers participants the opportunity to explore campus and interact with university professionals ready to help make the transition to college easier.

Prospective students and their families will attend an admissions presentation, two academic presentations of their choice and will have the option to participate in a financial aid presentation and a campus tour. There will also be Residence Life open houses and an information and student organization fair.

“We believe that Saturday@Sam is the best opportunity for someone to have an accurate picture of what it looks like to be a part of the SHSU community,” Visitor Services Director Courtney Chastine said. “The event is designed not just for students, but for families and student support persons to feel comfortable with the college search process. This year, we’re also excited to be able to offer the admissions and financial aid presentations fully in Spanish, when we’ve historically only been able to offer campus tours in Spanish.”

Family at Saturday@SamVisitor Services began seeing a need for childcare at this event and will now offer a childcare service during academic presentations for children in kindergarten through fifth grade to ensure all prospective students and their families get the most out of this insightful event. There is a designated place to sign up for this new service when registering.

“In the interest of serving the whole family, we want prospective students and adults to be able to focus more on the information available to them in their sessions, without having to entertain their youngest family members,” Chastine said. “The idea for childcare was developed to fill a need for our families who want to participate but also want to bring along their younger children. We always say that choosing a college is a family decision, so we know that the children need to be cared for in that process as well. The program will be managed by our full-time staff members and our SAMbassadors, many of whom are actually education majors and love working with children.”

Registration for the free event is open now and can be completed via an online form.
