Each year, the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association and the Department of Student Activities hosts a week loaded with fun-filled events for Bearkats and members of the community to enjoy celebrating the annual homecoming football game.
SHSU’s 2022 homecoming game is set for Nov. 19 against Southern Utah. Leading up to that will be many long-time Bearkat traditions along with a new event presented by Student Activities designed to add a new level of entertainment for everyone.
The Homecoming Parade will take place Friday, Nov. 18 starting at 5 p.m. along Sam Houston Avenue. Following the parade that same evening, the festivities will continue with a new Homecoming Harvest Festival scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Walker County Annex parking lot.
“Making connections with fellow students, professors, university staff and community members is an important part of the college experience,” Brandon Cooper, director of Student Activities, said. “The annual homecoming parade has always played a valuable role in connecting the campus with the community. We hope to enhance that experience even further by continuing the celebration after the parade with the festival.”
Vendors will line the lot with booths, along with live music and games to enjoy. The Bearkat Marching Band and Orange Pride Dance Team will make a stop at the event to perform in a community pep rally.
“This is our first festival of this type, and our hope is to bring Bearkat spirit into the community with a great collaborative effort,” Cooper said. “Homecoming is a way to celebrate community, both past and present, and we could not have that without the great Huntsville community supporting SHSU. This event is a showcase of our partnership with the great people and businesses of Huntsville.”
Vendors interested in participating in the event are encouraged to contact Breanna Provost (936-294-2403 or email@example.com).
