New Dean Of SHSU College Of Health Sciences Announced

Emily RoperEmily A. Roper has been named the new dean of the Sam Houston State University College of Health Sciences (COHS), effective April 15. Roper, professor of Kinesiology at SHSU, has been serving in the interim dean position since Aug. 1, 2021.

“In her time at SHSU and as interim dean, Dr. Roper has earned the respect of the college and received overwhelming support from staff, faculty, and students,” Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael T. Stephenson said. “She is well positioned to build out the expansion of programs and infrastructure in order to lead the College of Health Sciences to the next level.”

During her 16 years at SHSU, Roper has served as chair of the Department of Kinesiology and assistant dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in COHS. She has also served as an associate dean in COHS.

Sam Houston State University’s College of Health Sciences includes the School of Nursing as well three academic departments: Family and Consumer Sciences, Kinesiology, and Population Health. COHS is comprised of undergraduate and graduate degrees focusing on clinical training and field-based learning that prepare future professionals for the Texas workforce.
