All Paws-In FlyerWith a hope to instill a passion for service in students, Sam Houston State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) will host Bearkat All Paws-In on Saturday, April 9. The volunteer event is campus-wide and offers all Bearkats the chance to serve the SHSU and Huntsville area communities.

The 2022 event will consist of service events around Huntsville and Walker County, and there are currently 6 confirmed sites that are asking for more than 150 volunteers.

“This is a great opportunity for students to earn service hours and contribute to their community,” said SGA Co-Director of University Affairs Arianna Ramp. “We are really hoping for a large group of volunteers this year.”

Student organizations are encouraged to participate together in this service event, as it is the largest volunteer initiative at SHSU and a great way to serve with those you interact with on campus.

“We are doing our best to group students by their organization,” Ramp said. “This allows the organization to work on some team building while living out the university motto.”

Students at All Paws-InSince the creation of the event in 2010, Bearkat All Paws-In has brought in over 10,000 hours of community service to the university and Huntsville community.

“This allows us as students and as leaders to show the community what we’re about, and at the same time, the community can tell us what they want from Sam Houston State and its students,” Wright said. “By doing so, we can all work side-by-side to improve the efforts of bringing more people to our city.”

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 event was implemented a little differently with a donation drive that was held over several weeks for the Boys and Girls Club, SAAFE House and SHSU Food Pantry.

“I am grateful we still got to do something last year, but I am ecstatic about doing more hands-on stuff within the Walker County area this year,” Wright said.
