Zimmerman with Trophy

Carlos Zimmerman
Houston, TX
Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications

Carlos Zimmerman has seen plenty of victories celebrated as a play-by-play announcer for 90.5 KSHU radio in Huntsville. This fall, Zimmerman celebrates a victory of his own by crossing the stage at commencement with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Sam Houston State University.

Zimmerman is a member of the National Sports Media Association and plans to continue pursuing his dream of sports broadcasting. After graduating, and while maintaining his job as a producer for 101.7 KSAM, Zimmerman will become a graduate assistant for Bearkat Athletics and pursue a master’s degree in digital media.

“The ultimate goal is to become a play-by-play announcer for a major network like ESPN, FOX Sports, CBS Sports,” Zimmerman said. “The dream is to one day call March Madness or the Olympics.”

Now that his undergraduate studies are coming to an end, Zimmerman says what he will miss most is interacting with fellow Bearkats, building friendships and being able to help others along in their career.

“Pushing myself to the next level is one thing but being able to help someone else along the way means so much more,” Zimmerman said.
