SHSU-COM Appoints New Dean of Biomedical Affairs

Kevin Lord has been named associate dean of Biomedical Affairs at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM).

Lord, who previously served as director of medical research and an associate professor of Pharmacology at SHSU-COM, played an integral role in the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical college’s educational environment, and has demonstrated his commitment to research and scholarly pursuits in many capacities.  

Since joining SHSU in 2019, Lord implemented the first Medical Scholars summer program to support first year medical students' summer research experience, initiated an infrastructure plan to support future extramural funding, and contributed to the development of a novel method of curricular blueprinting and mapping.

Lord received his doctorate in Philosophy, Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics and his Master of Health Science in Physiology at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Lord previously worked as an associate dean of Clinical & Applied Science Education for the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine and assistant dean of Student Affairs at the Feik School of Pharmacy.

He also held a variety of teaching positions including at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Feik School of Pharmacy.

“Dr. Lord’s diverse experiences in healthcare, higher education and research, coupled with his enthusiastic vision for the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine has made him a tremendous asset to our college,” said SHSU-COM Dean Dr. Charles Henley. “We are thankful for Dr. Lord’s hard work and leadership, especially this past year, and I am confident that he will bring great strength to the position.”
