Don and Sara Cole

As owners of The Cole Group, Sara and Don Cole have employed many Sam Houston State alumni. Both 1967 SHSU graduates, the two are often found supporting their alma mater at athletic games (including national championships) and sponsoring Bearkats in Business. Sara also serves as a member of the President’s Circle.

For Sara, Bearkat pride is part of a family legacy and their commitment to SHSU Athletics has personal meaning.

“My father was an athlete at Sam Houston in the 1930’s. He absolutely loved Sam Houston and as a child, I attended many athletic events there,” she said.

Those family-rooted connections, along with a commitment to giving back, lead to a generous gift from the Coles as part of the university’s capital campaign for Athletics enrichment.

“Contributions are a vital asset to the university,” Sara said. “They keep Sam Houston in the limelight.”

As state resources continue to decline, the need for private funding to support the university’s strategic needs has become essential. Thanks to substantial support from loyal alumni like Sara and Don Cole, SHSU Athletics will continue to grow and sustain winning programs.
