Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s acting in spite of fear. At Leadercast Women 2019, Sam Houston State University attendees are encouraged to trade comfort for courage and be emboldened to practice courage in their daily lives, whether it be the workplace or the home.

At this one-day leadership event on Nov. 1 in the LSC Orange Ballroom, both men and women are invited to hear from nine expert, all-female leaders as they share their inspirational stories of courage. The event will be emceed by Victoria White, an SHSU admissions counselor and experienced public speaker.

"I have attended the Leadercast and Leadercast Women events for the past three years, and each year I leave with such great insight and practical ideas on how I can become a stronger and more effective leader. I accepted this role because I viewed it as an opportunity to play an active part in my leadership development, as well as helping to facilitate growth within the community of women I serve alongside," White said. "I expect that as we listen and share, we will all be teachers and students at Leadercast Women 2019, and that makes room for powerful transformation within our community."

Kristy Vienne, Leadercast Women chair and assistant vice president for the Division of Finance & Operations, feels this type of program will help inspire participants to live out the motto of the university. She hopes the leaders in the community will feel motivated to come together for a great day of networking.

The Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce; Magnolia Mey Boutique; University Hotel; and Walker County, have signed on as sponsors in order to support community collaborations, but more are being added daily.

On the day of the event, each attendee will be entered into a drawing for three door prizes. Extra tickets will be given out for a drawing sponsored by Leadership Initiatives to those who have donated to CASA of Walker County for a Kendra Scott jewelry set. To participate in this nonprofit drawing, contributors are asked to bring a $20 gift card to either Walmart, Amazon, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, or Sonic to donate to CASA. The donated gift cards will then be distributed to children and advocates in the CASA organization.

This event is open to Sam Houston State faculty, staff and students, but it is also open to the public with a purchase of a ticket. Limited tickets are still available through the Leadercast website for community members interested in attending or registration through Talent Management is still available for SHSU participants. Talent Management CEU credit will be given for attendance.

Please visit the Leadercast page for more information about the featured speakers and for the day’s schedule of events. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
