SHSU Physicians Clinic Opens In Conroe

The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine announces the public opening of SHSU Physicians, a new medical clinic in Conroe, Texas offering a range of specialties, with a focus on primary care. The clinic is located at 690 South Loop 336 West suite 200, Conroe, TX 77304 and will begin seeing patients on Nov. 12.
Located in close proximity to the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine’s academic facility (currently under construction), the opening of SHSU Physicians marks a new milestone for Montgomery County’s first medical school and one of three universities offering the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in Texas.
The clinic includes seven faculty physicians practicing family medicine, internal medicine, pulmonology and sleep medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine and three faculty nurse practitioners and one certified nurse midwife from the SHSU School of Nursing. Pediatricians and additional family and internal medicine physicians will be added in the near future.
With over 20 years in clinical practice, Craig Boudreaux, DO serves as an SHSU assistant professor of family medicine and medical director of SHSU Physicians. He joins another long-term Montgomery County physician, Stephen McKernan, DO in creating the practice.
SHSU Physicians also brings a new specialty to the community – Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (osteopathic manipulation) with doctors, Sharon Gustowski, DO and Peter Curka, DO, recruited to the medical school.
Boudreaux sees the new clinic as an opportunity to deliver quality care to the surrounding community while providing real-world learning opportunities for students.
“We are eager to bring a new brand of health care to patients and families. At SHSU Physicians, we are committed to helping all patients find affordable, quality care with an emphasis on compassionate, prevention-minded, whole-body care while incorporating the latest evidence-based medicine,” Boudreaux said. “The clinic will also serve as fertile ground for student rotations, allowing them to observe and perform various aspects of clinical medicine at various points during their medical education.”
SHSU Physicians will accept most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. They are currently taking new patients and appointments can be scheduled by calling 936-525-3600.
The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) is a member of the Texas State University System and is based in Conroe, Texas. The COM was founded in 2019 to help address the state’s severe shortage of primary care doctors, particularly in rural and underserved areas. SHSU-COM offers a four-year program leading to a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. The school will graduate its first class in 2024. The school is pre-accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
