Enrollment Management Wins Gold

The Program Marketing team in the Enrollment Management Division at Sam Houston State University, were recently honored with multiple prestigious awards for their outstanding work in the marketing industry.
The first, a Crystal Award from the American Marketing Association-Houston, was given to Meghan Burton, program marketing coordinator, and Sierra Ray, program marketing specialist, for their submission, a Philosophy magnet postcard. It was chosen in the “direct mail: two-dimensional (single item)” category. This marketing piece contributed to an impressive 30 percent increase in new student applications from the previous year for the Philosophy program.
Nominees and winners of the 2018 Crystal Awards were comprised of individuals and teams from across the Houston area, competing in 87 categories, making it the largest marketing event in Houston.
The award submissions were judged by an esteemed marketing panel from across the country who review each individual marketing campaign in order to tally scores based on objectives, strategies, tactics, message alignment and results. This is the department’s second Crystal Award win and third consecutive year to be nominated as a finalist.
“It is exciting and an honor to win awards such as these,” Burton said. “Winning a Crystal Award means that our work is among the best in the Houston area.”
The Enrollment Management Division also earned two Hermes Creative Awards. The Hermes is an international competition for creative professionals involved in concept, writing and design of traditional materials, marketing and communications programs and emerging media.
Mauri Smith, communications marketing coordinator, won a Gold Hermes Award for the “It’s time to know SHSU” entry in the print media/design/infographic category.
“A lot of time and effort is put into these pieces and it is a great feeling to see that being acknowledged in an international competition,” Smith said.
The Program Marketing team, Burton and Ray, additionally received a Gold Hermes Award for their Mass Communication t-shirt design entry in the “print media/marketing collateral/branding t-shirt” category.
“The Hermes Creative Award win speaks to the creativity of our work, which is important when trying to draw the attention of potential students,” Burton said.
The Hermes Creative Awards recognize outstanding work in the industry with entries from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms and graphic design companies from all over the world.
These are the first Hermes Creative Awards to be won by the Enrollment Management team.
