STUDY ABROAD 101 - monitor

Story by Tyler Pointer

The Office of International Programs at Sam Houston State University will host two study abroad informational sessions on Nov. 28 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Lowman Student Center Room 307 and Nov. 30 from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in LSC Room 315 to show students the many opportunities the program has to offer.

Study Abroad Coordinator Malin Hilmersson will host the sessions and advise students on what opportunities can match their interests or degree plans.

“The informational sessions gives students somewhere to start in approaching the idea of studying abroad,” Hilmersson said. “This way we are able to answer preliminary questions about every possibility we have.”

The sessions will discuss the three different types of study abroad, the potential costs for students and what scholarships and financial assistance they are eligible for, according to Hilmersson.

“Many students worry that studying abroad can be expensive or not an option, but it doesn’t have to be,” Hilmersson said. “There are programs where studying abroad is cheaper than studying on campus. We also try to match students with programs that are applicable to their degree paths and career goals.”

For more information on the sessions or to learn more about study abroad opportunities, contact Hilmersson at malin@shsu.edu or contact the OIP at 936.294.4737.
