For the fifth year in a row, Sam Houston State University has earned impressive national recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of online education programs.

In addition to placing in the five categories in which SHSU was recognized last year, the university also has placed in a new category, for Best Online Graduate Business Programs (non-MBA) for the online M.S. in Project Management program, for 2016.

The other five rankings include:

  • Best Online Graduate Criminal Justice Program
  • Best Online Graduate Information Technology Program
  • Best Online MBA Program
  • Best Online Graduate Education Program
  • Best Online Bachelor’s Programs

SHSU was first invited to participate in the ranking process for Best Graduate Online Criminal Justice degree programs in 2014, when the program ranked No. 5 nationally. This year, that same program advanced to No. 3.

Also advancing in the ranks, and among the highest-ranked programs in its category, SHSU’s online Graduate Information Technology Program rose to No. 6, up from No. 7 in 2015.

In the rankings of Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs, SHSU placed within the top quarter of all universities included in the survey. Similarly, in the Best Online MBA Programs rankings, the university’s rank is comfortably in the top third (30 percent) of all schools surveyed. In the Best Online Graduate Education Programs rankings, SHSU ranked in the top eighth of all ranked schools.

SHSU’s inaugural appearance in the Best Online Graduate Business Programs (non-MBA), for its online M.S. in Project Management program, bodes well for the university’s future performance in this category, according to Bill Angrove, associate vice president for distance learning.

“As always, we are pleased to support the university’s outstanding faculty members who offer their courses online, and we salute them on achieving such high rankings from U.S. News & World Report for their quality online degree programs,” Angrove said. “We look forward to continue working with SHSU faculty members over the coming year in their ongoing commitment to providing the best possible online learning experience for our students.”

SHSU offers more than 40 fully online degree programs, including two doctoral programs and 25 online certificate programs. For more information on any of SHSU’s online programs, visit distance.shsu.edu.
