Brown, who was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame on Nov. 12, 2004, has developed a reputation for being a rock-solid broadcaster.

The 1969 University of Missouri graduate began his sportscasting career in Cincinnati in 1972.

In 1987, he became the announcer for the Houston Astros and in 1997 assumed the full-time television duties for the Astros.

Brown was named the 2012 winner of the Fred Hartman Award, presented by the Houston chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, for long and meritorious service to the game. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association also honored Brown in 2014 with its Texas Sportscaster of the Year Award.

Mingling with the Media is a speaker series created, produced and promoted by the students of Priority One, a course within the Sam Houston State University Department of Mass Communication that provides hands-on experience for students planning a career in public relations.

Previous guests for Mingling with the Media have included former CBS News anchor Dan Rather and former ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton, both in conjunction with the SHSU Office of the President, and ABC13 news anchor Ilona Carson, among others.

Following Brown’s remarks, he will respond to questions submitted by students.
