Houston News Anchor To ‘Mingle’ At SHSU

You see her on the evening news, but now you can see and hear from her in person.
Ilona Carson, ABC 13 Houston Eyewitness News anchor, will visit with Sam Houston State University students on Wednesday (Oct. 14) during SHSU Priority One’s “Mingling with the Media” event.
Carson will offer career advice and tips, as well as answer questions and tell stories from the field, at noon in the Dan Rather Communications Building’s Studio A, located on the first floor.
One of Houston’s top news anchors, Carson will be interviewed by the Priority One adviser Peter Roussel, who serves as Philip G. Warner Chair in the SHSU Department of Mass Communication.
Before the event, Priority One members will host a table on the first floor of the Dan Rather Communications Building, on Monday and Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where students can pre-submit their questions for Carson to answer at the event.
The last 15 minutes of her talk with Roussel will include an additional question-and-answer session from the audience.
Carson anchors ABC 13’s Eyewitness News at 4 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. throughout the week. She also reports on local and national issues and has traveled the world to bring stories to Houston viewers.
Prior to moving to Houston, the University of Pennsylvania graduate worked at KSAZ in Phoenix and KAMR in Amarillo.
Carson’s work has earned a “Lone Star Emmy” award, a “National Headliner Award” and a “Gracie Award,” among others.
In her personal life, she is the mother of two boys, who enjoys traveling, riding horses, and spending time with the family at the beach.
Seating will be limited to the 50, so early arrival is encouraged.
