Animation, Bachelor of Fine Arts

Available: On Campus

The Animation Program at Sam Houston State University is one of the most popular programs in the Department of Art and is available on its own or with teaching certification.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation offers a highly collaborative experience in 2D and 3D animated story telling to a diverse student body.

All students must complete the W.A.S.H. (Workshop in Art Studio and History) upon entering the Art Program and pass a BFA portfolio review in their sophomore year in order to continue in the BFA program.

Coursework

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation is built on a foundation of fine art, drawing, design, and art history courses. Students take courses offered in 2D Animation, 3D Computer Animation, Pre-Visualization, 3D Modeling, Character Animation, 3D Animation for Interactive Games, and the History of Animation. Seniors complete their degree by taking the Animation Portfolio class, in which they create a professional demo reel, website, and print portfolio.

The Art Department requires its students to own a Mac laptop with the current version of Adobe Creative Suite. This policy allows students to be as productive as possible without the confines of class schedules and lab hours. Financial aid and SHSU discounts are available to offset the cost.  Get details about financial aid and discounts for laptops.
