A severe weather system approaching the North American coastline.

The College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges of criminal justice in the nation.

The undergraduate major in Homeland Security Studies introduces students to the broad scope of the homeland security enterprise including areas such as counterterrorism, critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, border security, aviation, and maritime security, emergency management, strategic communications, pandemic management, and defense support for civil authorities.  The field encompasses virtually all major large-scale threats to the rule of law and the stability of society.

Homeland Security Studies is a new discipline that emerged as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and has expanded to include a wide variety of security and public safety areas. The broad educational objective of the program is to develop thinkers, analysts, managers, and leaders who possess expertise in both theoretical frameworks and experiential dimensions of homeland security. The program will provide students with a strong knowledge base in the field as well as a toolbox of analytical and communication skills needed for careers in the field.

For greater convenience and ease of access, the program is offered online only.
