Graduates from Sam Houston State University’s Fashion Merchandising Program enter an exciting and dynamic global fashion industry that is constantly changing. Career opportunities are diverse and include retail management, apparel buying, fashion marketing, merchandising for an apparel or accessories line, and special events and promotions.

The Fashion Merchandising Program prepares students academically and in practice for entry-level positions in the fashion industry for both retail and wholesale settings. The senior-level internship requirement provides an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand this exciting industry and provides a transition into the job market following graduation. Students may choose to pursue either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree.


All students who complete programs in Fashion Merchandising, Food Service Management, and Interior Design are required to complete a supervised internship of at least 200 hours. Students are provided leads for securing internship opportunities; however, part of the internship experience is securing a suitable position.
