Expand the sections below to learn who must take TSIA2, what’s on it, fees, and how to schedule.

Understanding the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is a state-approved placement exam that assesses skills in reading, writing, and math to ensure readiness for college-level coursework at Texas public institutions.

Determining If You Need the TSIA2

Most students entering a Texas public college or university must satisfy TSI requirements unless they qualify for an approved exemption or waiver. See SHSU Registrar’s TSI page for full details and exemptions.

What’s Covered on the TSIA2

TSIA2 includes ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading) and Mathematics sections.

TSIA2 Testing Costs

The Testing Center lists TSIA2 at $50. Fees and policies are subject to change; confirm current pricing on the Testing Center Fees page.

Retaking the TSIA2

Students may retake the TSIA2 as needed. If it’s your first time taking TSIA2, complete the required Pre-Assessment Activity (via ACCUPLACER). Schedule retests through the SHSU Testing Center.

Taking the TSIA2 Remotely

Students may be able to take the test at another accredited college testing center closer to home. Contact the SHSU Testing Center for remote options and instructions.

Understanding TSIA2 Scores and Placement

TSI is a placement exam; there are no “failing” scores. However, college-ready benchmarks are required to place directly into college-level courses. See the Registrar’s TSI FAQ for current benchmarks and placement information.
