​​ACTFL Exam​

​​The OPIc exam is an internet delivered test that provides valid and reliable oral proficiency testing on a large scale. The exam helps determine the level of proficiency in a certain language. This exam is given in a group setting for the World Languages and Cultures Department. The exam is adaptive and interactive (involves the use of an on screen Avatar).​

Testing dates and times will be determined through the World Languages Department

Registration/Administration Information: 

To register for the OPIc exam you will need to contact the Department of World Languages.

Items Needed​:

  • Primary: current, unexpired government-issued photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, passport, state-issued ID, etc.) 
  • Secondary: any ID listed under primary photo ID, social security card, credit/debit card, student ID, etc.) 
  • Contact Services for Students with Disabilities first for your accommodations letter to be forwarded to the Testing Center. 
  • Arrangements must be made with the Testing Center at least 2 weeks prior to testing.

  • Must be approved by the College of Education before registering for a test. 
  • The following exams require additional testing (constructed-response) with the College of Education; Examinees are required to contact the College of Education before their scheduled test date at the Testing Center to make same day arrangements (or future test arrangements) for the constructed-response sections. 
    • Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test - BLTLPT (190)

Testing Days and Times (Huntsville Campus)

  • Monday - Friday 
  • Check website for available test times. 
  • Examinees need to report to the testing site at least 15-30 minutes prior to their scheduled testing time on their scheduled testing date. 
  • 3.5-hour time limit for Paper-Pencil exam. 
Registration/Administration Test Fee 
  • Prior to scheduling an appointment, contact the office of Services for Students with Disabilities for your Letter of Accommodations to be sent to the Testing Center. 
  • Arrangements must be made with the Testing Center at least 2 weeks prior to testing. 
  • Current, unexpired picture identification (i.e., driver's license, passport, state-issued ID, military ID, student ID, etc.) 
  • Second form of ID (i.e., any of the previously listed photo IDs, social security card, birth certificate, credit/debit card, library card, etc.) 
  • SAM ID number 
  • Score analysis sheets containing grade information will be sent by the College of Education in approximately two weeks following the test. 
  • Questions or comments regarding scores must be addressed to the College of Education Certification Officer.
