The AI Fellows

FY2026 AI Fellowships

During the 2025-2026 academic year, we had 3 AI Fellows who supported the university's AI interpretation, policy and training efforts. Dr. Syed Faruqui, Dr. Ashley Brittain, and Dr. Yingying Tang made significant contributions to the field of artificial intelligence, program development and educational resources, for the TLC and in their respective colleges.

  • Developed course ETDD 4369: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for Engineers 1 (First such course in the Department of Engineering Technology) for Summer 2026. The course guides undergrad senior students in using core AI/ML techniques (introductory) to engineering situations. Students will learn how to and when to use AI/ML tools for problem solving

  • Served as panelist for “Want to Know How Your Colleagues Are Using AI?”, a university-wide TLC panel on AI use in teaching, ethical AI pedagogy, and AI tool demonstrations, 2025.

  • PI, “AI Writing for Communities: Advancing Workforce Readiness and Community Partnerships at Sam Houston State University,” New Faculty Program Grant, SHSU, 2026, funded for $5,000.
    • Supported the development of ENGL 3331: AI Writing for Communities, integrating AI-supported writing, workforce readiness, and community-based learning.
