Tuition varies based on your residency status. It combines statutory tuition (set by the State of Texas) and designated tuition (set by SHSU). These funds support the university’s core operations, including faculty and staff salaries, academic programs, and campus improvements. 

This fee supports campus services such as academic advising, instructional support, technology, testing, and other student services that enhance the academic experience. 

This fee funds SHSU’s athletic programs. It is assessed at $20 per semester credit hour during the fall and spring semesters and $10 per semester credit hour during the summer. 

Supports student life activities, such as intramural sports, certain athletic admissions, and student organizations. 
Assessed at $17.60 per semester credit hour during fall and spring (capped at $250) and $8.80 per semester credit hour during summer (capped at $125). 

A $100 per semester fee that supports the operations, maintenance, and programming of the Lowman Student Center, a hub for events and student engagement. 

This $75 per semester fee funds the Student Health Center, ensuring students have access to medical services and health education. 

A $100 per semester fee that supports SHSU’s recreational sports programs, facilities, and activities that promote student wellness and engagement. 

Fees & Considerations

A $101 per online semester credit hour fee is charged for distance learning courses. 

If enrolled in the MLS School Librarian Certification or MEd in Special Education with Diagnostician Certification, a $50 per online semester credit hour fee is charged for distance learning courses.

Students enrolled fully online and living outside a 60-mile radius of campus may be eligible for waivers of the Recreational Sports and Lowman Student Center fees. 

A $75 per semester credit hour fee is charged for courses taught at the University Center in The Woodlands. 

An $8 general lab fee is charged for courses with laboratory components. College of Science and Engineering Technology (COSET) lab courses have a $16 lab fee. 

An optional undergraduate program that provides all required course materials for $23.75 per semester credit hour. This fee is billed automatically but can be opted out by the published deadline.  Opt in/out here. 

A $855 per semester fee for students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This covers supplies, testing, and software required for the program.  

A $555 per semester fee for students in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program. This covers supplies, equipment, attire, and certification fees. 

A fee of $75 per semester charged to international students for services provided through the Office of International Programs.

College of Business Administration (COBA) and Department of Engineering Technology courses are assessed at $8 per semester credit hour fee 

College of Science and Engineering Technology students pay a $50 per semester fee in fall, spring, and summer. 

Music course fees are assessed for classes requiring individual instruction. Rates are $30 for 1 Semester Credit Hour (SCH), $60 for 2 Semester Credit Hour (SCH), and $75 for 3 or 4 Semester College Hour (SCH) per course. 

The PGA Golf Management (PGMA) is charged a $2,400 program fee annually during the fall semester. The fee is charged to all students enrolled in the PGA Golf Management program. The program fee covers golf course fees, affiliate fees, association fees, and testing fees. 

Excessive Hours in Degree Plan
Texas Education Code 54.014 specifies that resident undergraduate students may be subject to a higher tuition rate for attempting excessive hours at any public institution of higher education while classified as a resident student for tuition purposes.

Courses Taken More Than Twice
In order to provide for loss of state funding, students attempting a course for the third or more time will be charged a statutory tuition rate up to the non-resident rate. This fee is called the "Three Peat" Tuition fee.

A non-refundable fee is assessed to students enrolled in an installment payment plan. 

Rate: $30 enrollment fee per semester 

A late fee is charged for each installment payment received after the installment due date. 

Rate: $30 per late installment

A processing fee is charged for each returned payment. Students have 10 days from the date of the Student Financial Services' Office notification to pay the returned payment and processing fee. For additional information, please contact Student Financial Services. 

Rate: $25 per returned payment

Undergraduate RN-to-BSN tuition and fees by residency and term:

Executive Masters of Business (EMBA) 

The Executive Masters of Business Administration is charged at the rate of $7,000 per semester (fall, spring, summer). A non-refundable orientation fee of $1,000.00 is charged each fall semester in addition to program rate. 

Master of Education in School Leadership​:

Students enrolled in the M.Ed. in School Leadership will be charged at the rate of $280 per semester credit hour effective spring 2025.
