Board of Regents Meeting
Texas State University System
Board of Regents Meeting
Greetings! Welcome to Huntsville and to Sam Houston State University. It is a privilege to host the November meeting of the Texas State University System Board of Regents, and we are delighted to welcome you to our campus and community.
Thanks to the dedicated faculty and staff who guide our students to success, Sam Houston State continues to earn national recognition for excellence and opportunity. U.S. News & World Report placed us among the top 15% of universities nationwide with standout programs in business (top 15%), nursing (top 20%), psychology (top 19%), and a top 5% ranking for social mobility. Newsweek ranked Sam Houston number 58 in America’s Top Online Colleges for 2025, a significant rise from number 102 last year. We hope your time in Huntsville showcases the very best of our university. We have a beautiful campus and even better students, and we encourage you to explore what makes Sam Houston special.
On Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., we have arranged an optional tour of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library. The tremendous history and legacy of Sam Houston showcased here is an opportunity to see history in a way that no textbook can capture. See your logistical agenda for more details.
The November Board of Regents meeting will be held in the Orange Ballroom on the second floor of the Lowman Student Center. Lunch on Thursday will be served in room 230 of the Lowman Student Center, directly across from the Orange Ballroom. We look forward to hosting you at the Gibbs Ranch’s Sonny Sikes Arena and the Academic Building for dinner on Thursday.
On Friday at 11:30 a.m., we invite you to join us for the Active Learning Center Groundbreaking, a new facility that will symbolize the innovative, hands-on learning experiences that continue to define an SHSU education. Transportation will be provided from the Lowman Student Center to the groundbreaking at the conclusion of the Board meeting.
Throughout your stay, transportation will be provided between the University Hotel and all scheduled events. Should you need assistance at any point, please contact McCartney Johnson at (423) 946-7123 or Jennifer Alexander at (817) 685-5900.
Thank you for your continued leadership and for your dedication to the Texas State University System and its mission. It is an honor to share with you the remarkable progress and spirit of Sam Houston State University.
Sincerely,
Alisa White, Ph.D.
President
