Freshmen Leadership Program
The Freshmen Leadership Program is an innovative and challenging program that prepares students for the rigors of leadership roles. The program is offered to exceptional incoming first-year freshmen who have displayed leadership in their high school careers, hold themselves to high academic standards, and desire to obtain leadership positions while at Sam Houston State University.
During the fall and spring semesters of their first year, our program works to provide students with a rich series of learning opportunities designed to test, refine, and further develop their respective leadership interests and abilities. In weekly sessions, Cohort members participate in presentations and discussions, in order to gain understanding and familiarity with SHSU and its resources, as well as enhance their skills and abilities needed to serve as effective leaders in the university setting and beyond.
Additionally, all program participants receive a $1,000 scholarship split between their first fall and spring semester.
