The Office of Academic Planning and Program Development is your point-of-contact for all new program development.

Degree Program Development Process

The process for new degree programs can be found below. Please note that the first step in initiating this process is via the Program Analytics Request form.

  • Initiator submits a request for a new degree program via Program Analytics Request Form
    • Process focuses on gathering admin information, screening for CIP codes, related industries, target occupations, and any other data unique to the proposed program.
  • An Orientation is scheduled by Program Development, and the proposed degree program is added to Blackboard: Program Development.
  • Analytics Team completes the Program Analytics Report and delivers the report to the initiator.
  • An orientation is held with the program initiator(s) and the Program Development and Program Analytics teams to outline the degree program development process, to discuss the PA Summary, to review the degree program proposal form, and to answer any related questions and/or concerns.
    • An individualized orientation PowerPoint and degree program development timeline is provided.
  • Initiator uses the Program Analytics Report 1, along with any other information or research collected by the initiator(s), to complete the degree program proposal.

1Program Analytics Report data expires one year from delivery. Please, plan accordingly to ensure the degree program development process is completed in a timely manner. If the new degree program development process takes longer than one year, a new Program Analytics Report must be completed, the proposal will need to be refreshed and resubmitted, causing significant delays in the process.

  • Initiator submits the degree program proposal draft to the designated location in Blackboard: Program Development for assistance with drafting and/or preliminary review.
  • Initiator submits the final degree program proposal with required signatures to the designated location in Blackboard: Program Development for review by the Office of Program Analytics, Office of Academic Planning and Program Development, and Academic Dean.
  • The Program Development process is complete, and the proposal is now ready for submission to the University Curriculum Committee for review/recommendation.
    • Upon University Curriculum Committee submission, the proposed degree program proposal will be submitted to the Office of Finance and Operations for the completion of the 5-Year Cost and Funding.
