Regents Name Peggy Holzweiss Regents’ Teacher, Approve Academic and Financial Items

 

During its quarterly meeting on Feb. 12 - 13, the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents considered items from each member institution, including Sam Houston State University. The board took action on several key initiatives, such as authorizing the naming of the Jim P. Ferris Family Ring Plaza, among other items.

Academic Program Changes

  • Creation of a 30-semester credit hour Master of Science in Applied Biomedical Sciences within the College of Osteopathic Medicine, effective Sept. 1, 2026

Finance Items

  • Authorized SHSU to set tuition and fees for competency-based baccalaureate degree programs, beginning with the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Corrections
  • Approved the renewal of SHSU’s contract with Aramark Educational Services of Texas Inc. to provide meal plans to students at the current rate, with rates increasing in the casual, summer camp and athletic camp categories

Awards & Recognitions

  • Approved the conferral of the TSUS Regents’ Teacher Award upon Peggy C. Holzweiss, professor of education in the Department of Educational Leadership at SHSU

All academic program changes are to be implemented upon final approval by the TSUS Board of Regents, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, as applicable.
